| North Adelaide - A Classic Adelaide Heritage Village | |
When
Colonel William Light surveyed Adelaide in 1837 North Adelaide was part
of the plan. North Adelaide is full of Adelaide and Australia's history,
and features many heritage listed buildings that are detailed in a series
of walks, easily followed in a well designed free brochure.North Adelaide residents have featured in major events like the forming of the Australian Constitution, and the birth of cricket in South Australia.
The streets are wide and tree lined. There are 2 main shopping precincts,
Melbourne Street with the Adelaide Icon, The Lion Hotel, and O'Connell
street with the well known Archer and the freshly renovated Caledonian
Hotel. The Royal Oak Hotel about half way along O'Connell Street is very
popular and has musical entertainment with local bands and popular dj's
on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday Nights. At the northern end
of O'Connell there is the Art Deco style Picadilly picture theatre. Melbourne Street Cellars have a very comprehensive selection of South Australian wines to choose from if your time in Adelaide is a little to short to visit any of our extensive wine regions. |
